1985 Ford F350 Expedition Camper

This truck started life as a 1985 Ford F250 4x4 HD Diesel, but has received countless upgrades overtime to increase its performance, utility and reliability.  The ideal expedition vehicle for two people who like to explore the remote places on our planet:  No electronics or emission control system to worry about when exploring the backroads of Baja California, crossing the Amazon Basin or touring the Atacama Desert in Bolivia.

A mechanical 7.3L V8 turbodiesel with manual 5 speed transmission and manual 2 speed transfer case, leave springs and solid axles are virtually bullet proof.  Should something go wrong, and on extended travel it will happen at some point, this setup is easily maintained in the field or at a basic workshop.

The camper is simple but comfortably houses two people on extended expedition travel – we have lived in it for several weeks in Alaska and Baja California.  It has a solar powered fridge/freezer, water pump, LED lighting and a practical kitchen setup with a 2 burner propane stove which can be removed and attached to the rear bumper for outside cooking.

While perfect for two people this truck just doesn’t work for a family of four with two growing teenage boys. Therefore we sold it and purchased a 2002 Ford F250 Crew Cab pick up truck and we are converting it into our next overland camper. Follow the project in the last section of the vehicle page.
